FAQ

Q. If I get a hair transplant while hair loss is progressing, will only the transplanted area have hair left while the back becomes bald, looking unsightly?
A.
Yes, that is correct. If you have hereditary hair loss, the non-transplanted areas will continue to experience hair loss. Therefore, you should manage it consistently by taking hair loss medication after the surgery.
Q. Can hair loss occur near the crown area after surgery?
A.
The M-shaped hairline and crown hair loss are typical areas affected by male pattern baldness. Even if you undergo M-shaped hairline transplant surgery, if you do not take hair loss medication, hair loss may progress in the non-surgical crown area, making it look sparse. This should be considered as your natural hair loss progression, unrelated to the M-shaped hairline transplant surgery.
Q. Does having more gray hair lead to hair loss?
A.
No, it does not. Having more gray hair has no direct correlation with hair loss. There is no need to worry about this in advance.
Q. Does abstinence help with hair loss?
A.
No, it does not help. Abstinence is unrelated to hair loss. Starting hair loss medication early is actually more helpful for preventing hair loss.
Q. What causes hair loss?
A.
Hair loss can be caused by genetics, male hormones, endocrine disorders, childbirth, nutritional deficiencies, unclean scalp conditions, side effects of certain medications, severe mental or physical stress, and scalp conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, folliculitis, and dandruff.
Q. What is hair loss?
A.
Hair grows approximately 1cm per month and has a lifespan of 3-4 years. Koreans have an average of 50,000 to 100,000 hairs. Losing 50-100 hairs per day is normal. However, if you lose more than 100 hairs per day and the hair in the M-shaped hairline and crown areas is gradually becoming thinner, it is diagnosed as hair loss.
Q. Can I get a hair transplant even if I have thin hair?
A.
If hair has fallen out due to hair loss or other physical reasons, restoration through hair transplant may be possible. However, if you were born with naturally thin hair, a hair transplant may not be helpful. We recommend scheduling a consultation for accurate assessment.
Q. What is shock loss?
A.
Shock loss refers to the temporary hair loss phenomenon that occurs when the scalp around the donor or recipient area becomes stressed after surgery. Since hair follicles were not extracted from the shock loss area, the hair will naturally grow back as it gradually recovers from around the 4th month, so there is no need to worry.
Q. Hair keeps falling out from the donor area after surgery. Is this shock loss?
A.
Whether you had FUT (strip method) or FUE (follicular unit extraction) surgery, in the process of micro blood vessels being damaged and recovering in the donor area where hair was extracted, the scalp may become stressed, causing surrounding hair to temporarily fall out and then recover after several months. This can also be considered a type of shock loss. Since this shock loss is a form of telogen effluvium (resting phase hair loss), most cases recover naturally on their own.
Q. If shock loss occurs, how long does it last after surgery?
A.
Shock loss typically occurs between 2 weeks and 1 month after surgery. After going through a resting phase of about 2-3 months, most recovery begins from the 4th month, and since hair needs time to grow, most cases naturally recover within 6-8 months.
Q. How should I prepare for shock loss, which may or may not occur?
A.
While it is difficult to predict in advance due to individual differences, even if shock loss occurs, the natural recovery rate is high. If there are any insufficient areas, they will be checked during the follow-up session and can be supplemented, so patients do not need to worry too much.
Q. Does shock loss mean that even people without hair loss can develop alopecia after surgery?
A.
Shock loss is a temporary symptom that occurs during surgical recovery, while alopecia is a condition that progresses due to personal and genetic factors. These are different types of hair loss with different causes. Treatment and management appropriate for the specific cause are necessary.
Q. Will hair grow in the transplanted area even after chemotherapy following hair transplant surgery?
A.
The transplanted hair will grow back according to its natural growth cycle.
Q. Is it not allowed to eat hot food and sweat after surgery?
A.
Sweating from eating hot food does not affect the graft survival rate of hair transplant, so there is no need to worry.
Q. Does damaged hair reduce the success rate of hair transplant?
A.
Hair condition and hair transplant success rate have no significant correlation. The exact scalp and hair condition must be examined directly, but even if the hair is damaged, it does not pose a significant problem for hair transplant.
Q. How does the degree of curl affect the number of transplantable follicles?
A.
Hair condition and hair transplant success rate have no significant correlation. The exact scalp and hair condition must be examined directly, but even if the hair is damaged, it does not pose a significant problem for hair transplant.
Q. I was advised to take hair loss medication and have been taking it for a few days, but it feels like more hair is falling out than before.
A.
The hair loss is not caused by the medication. The existing hair is entering the resting phase early to make way for new hair growth. From 2-4 months later, new hair will grow in the areas where hair fell out, so you should continue taking the medication consistently.
Q. Can I resume taking vitamins and omega-3 supplements after surgery?
A.
You may resume taking them after surgery. We asked you to stop taking multivitamins, omega-3, and similar supplements one week before surgery because they can promote bleeding during the procedure. After surgery, you can take them without concern.
Q. When can I start applying minoxidil after surgery?
A.
Minoxidil can be used one month after hair transplant surgery. We recommend using it after one month.
Q. I was told not to take hair loss medication because of high liver enzyme levels. Can it be replaced with another medication?
A.
When changing hair loss medication, you must receive a diagnosis and prescription from a medical institution. For detailed information, you need to visit in person and consult with the medical staff. Hair loss treatments and supplements have different effects, so if medication is needed, you should receive a prescription for hair loss medication based on your physician's assessment.

Q. Can I take diet herbal medicine after surgery?
A.
We recommend taking diet herbal medicine 10 days after surgery, once the transplanted hair has completed the grafting process.
Q. What is the effectiveness of medication for crown hair loss?
A.
You need to take hair loss medication consistently for at least 6 months to 1 year to see the effects of the medication.
Q. Should I start taking hair loss medication on the day of surgery, or should I wait some time before taking it?
A.
Hair loss medication should be taken consistently regardless of the surgery schedule.
Q. How long should I continue taking hair loss medication?
A.
You should continue taking it long-term. (Stopping the medication accelerates hair loss progression.) This medication is safe for long-term use. If you stop taking it, hair loss will resume. Therefore, it is best to continue taking hair loss treatment medication at a reasonable cost to prevent hair loss and maintain your hair.
Q. Is it okay to take hair loss medication every 2-3 days?
A.
It may provide psychological comfort, but it is not actually effective. Since the half-life (the estimated time for the drug concentration or amount in the body to decrease by exactly half, 50%) is short at about 8 hours, you need to take it daily to see results.
Q. When can I bend my head down to wash my hair?
A.
Bending your head down for shampooing is possible from the 10th day after surgery.
Q. Is hair dryer use related to hair transplant?
A.
Using a hair dryer itself is unrelated to hair transplant, so you may use cool air or natural air for drying. However, for the transplanted area, a moist environment is better for faster wound healing during the first few days after surgery, so it is best not to dry it completely with hot air. If you have dried it too much, applying grafting spray, saline solution, or lotion immediately will help with recovery. Also, since scalp sensation may be reduced, be careful not to get burns from using hot air.
Q. How should I dry my hair after shampooing?
A.
When drying your hair after shampooing, please use natural air or cool air.
Q. How should I shampoo after surgery?
A.
Shampooing is possible from the day after surgery, but during the 10-day grafting period, do not rub with your hands at all. Instead, create shampoo foam, place it on the transplanted area, wait 1 minute, then rinse with lukewarm water at low pressure. Areas other than the transplanted site can be shampooed in the usual manner.
Q. If I have an oily scalp, can I shampoo twice a day after one month post-surgery?
A.
Shampooing twice a day is possible from day 10 onwards. (Only shampoo once a day until day 10, the grafting period.)
Q. When can I exercise after hair transplant surgery?
A.
Exercise is possible 3 weeks after hair transplant surgery. During the grafting period, please only take light walks.
Q. When can I start exercising after surgery?
A.
Strenuous exercise that causes heavy sweating, such as basketball, soccer, golf, yoga, pilates, fitness training, and swimming, is possible from 3 weeks after surgery. (Light walking is possible immediately.) Vigorous exercise that suddenly raises blood pressure can negatively affect the graft survival rate of the transplanted area, so it is only allowed from 3 weeks onwards.
Q. When can I do strength training after surgery?
A.
When exercising with heavy exertion, blood pressure suddenly rises, making it difficult to supply smooth blood flow to the hair follicles, which interferes with grafting. Therefore, unless it is simple bodyweight exercises, arm and leg movements, or jogging, we advise waiting until grafting is complete (10 days).
Q. When can I use a sauna or jjimjilbang (Korean spa)?
A.
This is possible 3 weeks after surgery. The same applies to saunas. For tanning, since large amounts of UV rays can cause pigmentation during the skin's healing period, it is best not to get tanned for 6 months after hair transplant surgery.
Q. Can I return to work after resting for about 3 days post-surgery?
A.
Light exercise such as bodyweight exercises and jogging is possible immediately, and even work that involves lifting and carrying heavy objects is possible from the 4th day after surgery. However, please be careful not to apply direct stimulation to the transplanted area for 10 days after surgery.
Q. When can I have an upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy after surgery?
A.
During the first 10 days after surgery, lying on your side may cause the transplanted hair to touch surfaces. Since endoscopy requires lying on your side and is performed under sedation, your body may move significantly, so we do not recommend it. Please wait until after the 10-day grafting period.
Q. Does staying up late after surgery affect graft survival?
A.
If 10 days have passed since surgery, the grafting of transplanted hair is complete. To maintain the surgical results and prevent continued hair loss progression, we recommend maintaining regular and healthy lifestyle habits.
Q. I was told not to smoke, but does that include e-cigarettes?
A.
In addition to nicotine, e-cigarettes also contain other harmful substances, so you should avoid e-cigarettes as well. Smoking in particular constricts blood vessels, which can interfere with blood supply to the follicles during the grafting period. We recommend abstaining from alcohol and smoking until 10 days after surgery.
Q. I need to wear a helmet or safety hat for extended periods at work. Can I use it immediately after the transplant?
A.
Wearing a safety helmet is possible. It is much safer to place gauze on the transplanted area or wear a cotton handkerchief like a bandana and put the helmet over it so the helmet does not directly touch the transplanted area. However, since prolonged wear prevents ventilation, we recommend not wearing it during rest periods or when you are at home.
Q. When can I wear a wig?
A.
A wig can be worn from the day after surgery as long as it does not touch the transplanted area (using clips or tape).
Q. When can I start wearing a hat after surgery?
A.
You can wear a hat from the day of surgery. The reason for advising against wearing hats is because the first 2 weeks minimum after surgery is the grafting period when the transplanted hair properly settles in the new environment. During grafting, both the scalp and transplanted hair are in a sensitive state, and external impact before grafting is complete can reduce the graft survival rate, so it is best to avoid stimulation as much as possible.
Q. I work with a safety helmet on. Is it okay to wear it right after surgery?
A.
We do not recommend it immediately after surgery, but if unavoidable, please wear a thin cotton handkerchief like a bandana to prevent the transplanted area from rubbing, then put the helmet over it. However, this may vary depending on work intensity and helmet type, so please confirm with your medical staff once more if you proceed with surgery.
Q. When can I start using hair styling products?
A.
Hair styling products such as gel, mousse, and wax can be used from day 10 onwards.
Q. When can I use hair fiber powder and hair products?
A.
From day 10 onwards.
Q. Can I get forehead filler after hair transplant?
A.
This is possible after the 10-day grafting period.
Q. When can I get scalp micropigmentation after hair transplant surgery?
A.
This is possible from 6 months after surgery.
Q. Will getting a scalp tattoo on the transplanted area 2 months after hair transplant negatively affect the follicles?
A.
For scalp micropigmentation after hair transplant, we recommend waiting at least 6 months to 1 year.
Q. When can I get a haircut?
A.
Scissor cutting is possible from day 10, and clipper cutting is possible from 3 weeks. (For FUT/strip surgery, clipper cutting is possible from 4 weeks.)
Q. When can I get a perm or hair dye?
A.
This is possible 3 weeks after surgery. (For FUT/strip hair transplant surgery, it is possible 4 weeks after.)
